Beebot assault course !

😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Computing

Today during computing we worked collaboratively to make an assault course for the Beebot to follow.
We the had to carefully consider what information we needed to enter into the Beebot so that it would travel around the course successfully. We shared our ideas with each other.
We took turns to enter the information ourselves making sure that we pressed the buttons in the right order.

We were extremely pleased that our we were able to  manoeuvre Beebot  around the course and we even managed to get him to go through the gate at the end !
Well done everyone -great teamwork !

Take a Picture

As a whole school this week we will be completing different literacy based tasks around this image. Today in Year 1 we made inferences and answered questions about this picture. Here are our responses:

1. How does this picture make you feel and why?

  • The picture made me feel sad because the countryside is getting smaller.
  • This picture makes me feel angry because it is zipping up the countryside.
  • This picture makes me feel strange because it is difficult to understand and explain why the city is getting bigger.
2. Is the zipper opening or closing? Why?
  • It is closing because the tractors are going away fast.
  • It is closing because the buildings are becoming straight
3. What are the tractors doing Why?
  • The tractors are harvesting the field because that is what they do in the countryside.
  • The tractors are running away from the zip because it is closing the countryside.
  • The tractors are rushing away because they do not want to get squashed or broken.
4. What message is the picture trying to tell us?
  • The picture is telling us a clue of what could happen to the countryside.
  • The want us to answer why the countryside is getting smaller.
  • The picture is trying to tell us that the zipper is zipping up the field and there is more city than countryside.
5. What do you think could happen next?
  • The countryside could be destroyed if the zip is closed all of the way up.
  • The countryside could end if we do not stop the cities.
  • The zip could go back to the beginning because it is tired out.

Body Image

This week our focus in circle time was 'Body Image'. We learnt about and discussed this through film answering the following questions:

  • People come in all shapes, colors and sizes. What are the features that make you unique?
  • Why do the other Zebras treat Khumba differently? How does this make him feel?
  • How do the animals in the sanctuary view Khumba? Why can't he stay there?
  • How is Khumba similar to the Black Eagle and Pongo the leopard?
  • How does Khumba feel about himself at the end of the film?

Dear....

This week during literacy we have been writing formal letters to the king in our story because his daughter (the princess) had a dream about owning a special golden crown. We had to use language to persuade him to buy our unique crowns! After reading our letters, would you buy our crowns? We are  excitedly waiting to receive the reply we requested from the king.

Division Time!

This week in Year One we have been learning all about grouping and division. We now understand that we have to share the given number equally for which lots of us use groups. Also some of us noticed that we knew how to count up in 5's, 2's 10's and even 3's so we used this knowledge to work out the answers to the division calculations mentally!

RE

WALT: To think about how people matter to God.

Today during our RE lesson we were lucky to have Cribbs come to tell us one of the stories told by Jesus. We learnt all about the story of 'The Lost Sheep' and even had a sheep hunt ourselves! After we had found the sheep we discussed how the sheep and shepard might have felt during the story. We learnt that God told Christians that his love for them was like the shepard's love for his sheep.

What is the time?

In maths we started this week learning to read the time on an analogue clock. We were superstars at reading the times on clocks for every hour, half an hour, quarter past an hour and even quarter to an hour. Some of us have been reminding Mrs Butler of the time (especially lunch)!! Today we learnt that the minute hand is a long hand and the hour hand on a clock is short. Then we used this knowledge to draw the correct times on different clocks. We even had to use our fractions to help us work out where the different hands needed to be drawn.
