We have been continuing to discuss e-safety as part of our computing topic.

Today, we watched a short cartoon explaining the potential dangers of playing games online.

You can watch it below:

We also discussed sharing personal information and why you should not do this.

Here are some of the children's ideas as to what you should not share with people:

Isabella - name of your school

Harrison.V - where you live

Ava - your age

Harry - your name

Florence - your door number

Anthony - your road name

Haden - your country.

Using the laptops to help with maths

On Friday, during maths, we played games on the laptops!

We've been learning to order numbers so in the games we played, this is what we had to do.

Some of us even got to have a go on the IWB.

This week in Geography, we used Google Maps to explore our local area.
We were able to find our school on the map and have a look at it from an ariel point of view!

We also used 'street view', where it actually looks like you are walking down the road!

We were able to find different places in Bexleyheath by navigating around the map.

We were even able to find some peoples houses!
Harrison was able to navigate from our school to his house - wow!

If you would like to access Google Maps at home then click on the link below :-)

Discussing e-safety

As part of our computing curriculum, we have to put on our blog every week what we have done in our computing lessons.

Today we started to discuss e-safety and what it means.

Here is what we initially came up with as a class:

To help us understand the concept of e-safety a bit more, we read the story of 'Smartie the Penguin'. We had to discuss whether we thought Smartie was making the right decisions in certain scenarios.

You can read the story here!

We definitely agreed with Smartie's choices. He always thought it was best to tell his Dad if he felt unsafe. We all decided, that the best way to stay safe on the internet is to ALWAYS tell an adult.

We also loved singing the internet safety song!

Listen to Amelia's really sensible answer here about what Smartie the penguin should do and why:

A fantastic start to a new year!

We've had a fantastic first full week in Year 1. We feel at home already!

We've been getting used to our new classroom and where everything is and also getting to know our new teachers a bit better :-)

Look at what we've been up to!

We've got stuck straight into lots of fun maths and literacy work and we've started our geography topic 'Our Local Area'.

We can safely say we've had lots of fun!

Please check the blog every week to see what we've been up to and don't forget to leave a comment!
