Thank you to all the children and parents who kindly gave so many lovely cards and gifts to the staff in year 1.  Well done to the children in Moss and Fern for such a wonderful time this year filled with  fantastic learning and fun too.

This is our film to explain how year 1 answered our big question for the festival of learning.

Subtraction using a number square

Do you know how to subtract using a number square? We have been practising this skill.  Click on the hyperlink to watch a clear explanation.  You need to know how to partition a number into tens and units to use this method.  

Euan is explaining 23-12.  
First he finds 23 on the number square and colours it in.

Euan knows he must partition 12 into 10 + 2.
He jumps up one place because 12 has one 10.
He moves left two places because 12 has two units.

How can we stay happy and healthy?

We were allowed to choose if we wanted to make clay models about staying healthy or if we wanted to make a paper plate of healthy food.  The food looks very colourful and appetising!
